The buffalo (bison) was very important to the Lakota people in many ways.

Buffalo Warrior shield me
As the arrows rain down
Protecting shield held tightly
Above my head

The great and mighty Tatanka
Shaking the ground
As the herd rumbles past
Last of the mighty ones

Bringing good medicine
Sustainer of life
Protector of the weak
