Description

Sandy painted this picture in honor of those who fought at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. As the lances represent the Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapahos were the tribes that were there. It was a brief period in modern history for their victory. Sandy’s great great Uncle Painted Horse was one of the participants. He always walked with a limp after the battle.

Poem

Gathering to the Battle of the Greasy Grass (AKA) Custer’s Last Stand Listen to the warm June Wind calling The Great Sioux Nation The Great Cheyenne and Arapaho Nations Calling us together to be free Listen to the Wind calling Gathering with might The great Warriors and Chiefs; Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Two Moon, and Painted Horse To fight for our freedom. Listen to the Wind calling Let us come together to fight for our land Then raise our lances high And sing a song of victory Listen to the Wind singing the victory song For the battle of the Greasy Grass; at last, We have won our great victory for sovereignty Then the Wind was silent Sandy Swallow Oglala Lakota/ Northern Cheyenne
